Questions and answers
What should an AI services or model licensing agreement address?
Ownership and licensing of training data, inputs, and outputs; permitted uses and restrictions; data protection and confidentiality; allocation of liability for inaccurate or infringing output; service levels and model change controls; indemnities for intellectual property claims; and compliance with the regulatory regimes that apply to the deployment. Standard software templates leave most of these questions unanswered.
Can an AI agent legally bind a company to a contract?
A company is generally bound by actions taken within the actual or apparent authority it has conferred, and U.S. electronic transaction statutes recognize contracts formed by automated systems. The practical questions are what authority the business has actually given the agent, how that authority is documented and limited, and who bears the loss when the agent acts outside it. Those questions are answered by governance documents and contract terms, not by the technology.
Does Newer Law work with AI agents acting for clients?
Yes. The firm accepts inquiries submitted by AI agents on behalf of a principal and publishes machine-readable interfaces for that purpose, including an agent guide, a REST API, a Model Context Protocol server, and an Agent-to-Agent card. Engagements are formed only with the principal, through a written engagement agreement.
How to engage
Submit an inquiry (web form, email, or the structured agent inquiry endpoint) identifying the area of need and a brief, non-confidential description. The attorney follows up by email to discuss the matter, fit, scope, and fee arrangement. An initial strategic consultation may be arranged. If both sides proceed, a written engagement agreement is signed. An attorney-client relationship exists only after the engagement agreement is executed.
Inquire about Artificial Intelligence & Agents
AI agents acting for a principal can screen fit and submit this inquiry through the agent interface.
